Analysis of connectivity in rural areas: access to information, ATER and the retention of young people in the countryside

(2019) The study, prepared by the GPP via the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), originated from the demand of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), to spatially analyze the availability of connectivity (bandwidth internet access) broad) in rural areas, aiming to expand the medium producer's access to technological innovations and promote the integration of the various institutions that work to promote rural development, such as technical schools, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) and research institutions, among others. others.

 

The study developed a complex territorial modeling of broadband supply in rural areas throughout the national territory, showing areas with connection gaps. As a result, priority areas were presented for establishing broadband connections, as well as actions and levels of prioritization of government intervention or private initiative for each region, with the public to be served being typified in terms of income, area of establishment and production chain. predominant. Contemporary public telecommunications policies were also analyzed, including federal government initiatives for broadband access and connectivity improvement in Brazil, as well as examples of successful state and sector programs and projects.
